The purpose to my guide is to let everyone know NOT to buy this tankless water heater!!! If you have any energy star appliances (diswasher, washing machine etc) this product will NOT work with these appliances. We have tried 2 separate units of this model, GWH 635 ES (its natural gas). The first one was shipped (from the factory) with dozens of missing parts, and it had water in it when we received it. The only way to make it work properly was to jump some of the parts together with a paper clip. We had it exchanged for another one (they send you REFIRB models when they replace under warranty by the way) which also arrived with water already inside it.
We insalled the second unit in October 2007, and as of date (Mar 25 2008) we are still not happy. Bosch technicians don't care about their customers. Upon calling numerous times and going through many technicians, who visited our home, we were told that this is how the unit is supposed to work, and we should "just get used to it". How anyone could get used to pouring at least 2 gallons of perfectly good water down the drain each time one would like to use hot water, is beyond me.
We have a Bosch Dishwasher that doesn't draw enough water to turn on our water heater, meaning the dishwasher is having to heat the water to 160 itself (from the street temperature of 34). My washing machine is either burning hot with water, or icy cold - there is no in between. The Pro Tankless is supposed to be able to run multiple applications simultaneously, but this is NOT the case. The warm and cold water do not mix.
Try washing your dishes in the sink, and not having hot water to rinse them because each time you turn the tap off, the system shuts down and you have to wait another 2 minutes for hot water again.
Try taking a shower, and when you turn the water on to heat up, then you pull the plunger to go to the shower when you get in, the system sees there was a change in the flow, and it SHUTS down again! This means you get a blast of icy water for 2 full minutes until the tankless turns back on again, and get the cold water all the way out of the tap, and back up to you in the shower. Try running a bathtub for your kids, only having to fill it with straight hot water, then cool it with cold because there is no in-between? You cannot just get WARM water from any taps in the house - period.
Don't even think of someone flushing a toilet, or turning on water somewhere else in the house to wash their hands while you're in the shower... you get a blast of cold water again till it shuts off and turns back on again. Any change in flow, hot or cold will shut off the tankless.
BUYER BEWARE... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
