Hello Everyone;
I took the plunge this year and went after my dream of haveing a converted bus for an RV. I watched ebay diligently for over a year and finally the bus of my dreams appeared on ebay. Now here is where things get interesting. I took the time while waiting to do some investigating to see if this was the right action to be taking. I found a web site that was awesome for answering some tough questions busconversion101.com/buting_a_bus this was a real help to me since I really lied the looks of the Eagle bus line however beig in the Canadas I have 2 options 1. is of course the ones that we all have seen and ogled over The Prevost . 2. The one for us working types the MCI. Why these 2 brands well simple, PARTS is what life is all about and repair is another important issue to think of when you have a bus.
I went with a MCI they have a parts distribution wharehouse in Ontario and the people there bring new meaning too the phrase Costomer Service. They helped get my account set up and the prices for the parts I need well it just leaves in disbalief that they don't cost more.
The Bus: Well the bus i bid on and got was sitting in Dewitt Iowa and I am in Northern Alberta, Hmmmm how to do this. Well once again I searched the web and other sources to figure out how I get my new purchase back here to Canada. There is a company in NorthBattleFord Saskatchewan, RGO that specialises in just that. They hooked us up with a broaker who took care of the paper work and they took care of the rest heading to Dewitt to get the bus and drive it back. Here is the nice part they charged us less then would have cost for me and the Misses to fly down and get the bus ower selves.
For those of you wanting a bus and live in Saskatchewan,, well er ah its just easier not to. There hoops and hurdels you have to jump through to do an out of country and province inspection is amazing to say the least. My wife and I thought since we have the lake property in Sakatchewan that we should register the bus there No Sirree! back to Alberta it went. In alberta the converted bus is considered an RV and all one needs is a light vehicle inspection. I had to do some work on the unit before geting it inspected but all is right in the world now and we are cruising Canada with our 1979 MCI MC 8/9.
In closing I can only suggest you do your homework and don't be scared of buying a bus they are great and we tend to head to some of the Bus Rallies in the US later on this summer.
