So you are considering buying a lens online, instead of locally? How you ask can you protect yourself from getting a worn, moldy, scratched up lens?
Here is a few things you should looks for before purchasing a lens off eBay... remember, it doesn't hurt to ask questions!
-Look at feedback. Do they have a history of selling mis-described items, or unsatisfactory packaging for expensive items, etc?
-Look for original photos of the item, instead of stock photos, to give you a good idea what you will be bidding on.
-Preferably get an item still under warranty. Also make sure the warranty will be good within your country.
-Make sure that it will fit your camera, and that it is the right mount.
Here are some questions you should ask:
1. Is there any dents or damage on the lens body?
2. Are there any scratches on the lens?
3. Does it mount fine? Are all the bearings on the mount there?
4. Is there any fungus on or in the lens?
5. Does it focus and operate fine?
Unless you fix lenses, then you should look for an item that has "Yes" answers to all these questions.
Also, when receiving the item, make sure that it is in good operating condition, and there is no flaws or mildew inside it. Inspect it carefully, and test it out.
I hope this has been helpful!
