DIGITAL CAMERA BASICS
When choosing a digital camera there are always a few basic questions I ask every customer.
1: How much do you want to spend.?
2: Is there a specific purpose you want the camera for or is it for general picture taking?
3: What size of camera do you want?
4: What about zoom?
5: Is wide angle important to you?
By answering these few questions you can narrow your chooses and then focus on brand options and purhaps other unique features. For example if you want to spend about $300 US or $350. CDN then I would recomend looking at a $200-240. camera so that you leave yourself extra for other accessories that you will want. For example you will want a case for your camera and this isn't included with most cameras other than some Ricoh cameras like the R1v.
Next you may want to consider an extra Battery and of course you can't forget a memory card considering that is your film and isn't included with most cameras. .
This memory card I have shown here is the most common in size and type. Most cameras today use the SD memory card so look for a camera that uses it unless you plan to purchase an SLR (single Lens Reflex) <-- These are the cameras you can change lenses on.
Most people tend to want a general use camera for all occasions and this helps in making the choice based on who will be using the camera and is it comfortable in the hand. this leads into size of the camera. If you plan on taking this camera on trips you may want a compact camera the can slip into a pocket or something larger that gives you more of a grip. purhaps you want lots of zoom so that you can get those distant shots. Image Stabilization may be important if traveling so that you don't need to carry a tripod with you. If you are not big on travel then maybe a camera for close to home and taking pictures inside. then we need to consider if you want wide angle so you can get everyone in the shot.
regardless of what company cameras you prefer always remember that if it's not comfortable in your hand you may not be happy with the camera so try a few in your hand to see how they fit.
In the future I hope to have more tips or maybe an online class to help you out.
