My guide to helping potential buyers in knowledge of fine jewelry

This guide applies to jewelry items. Such as gemstones,natural or synthetic,pearls(natural,cultured or synthetic.also metal jewelry. 

It is unfair to misrepresent,the type,kind, grade,quality,quantity or metal content ,size ,weight,cut,color, clarity,treatment or durability ,origin ,price ar anything else .

                       PEARLS

It is wrong to to use the word  cultured,semi-cultured,culture like,or partly cultured to describe a imitation pearl . It is wrong to call a pearl a South Sea cultured pearl  UNLESS it describes the pearl as being formed in a salt water mollusk of the Pacific OceanSouth Sea Islands,Australia.OR Southeast Asia.

IT IS ALSO WRONG to use the word real ,genuine or precious or any term or phrase to describe cultured pearl grown in freshwater mollusks in the lakes and rivers of JAPAN .     It is wrong to use the word gem to describe a pearl unless it has the quality of a cultured pearl that possesses the quality ,beauty, symmetry,rarity and value necessary to be referred to as a gem.            

RUBY,SAPPHIRE ,EMERALD,TOPAZ,STONE,BIRTHSTONE AND GEMSTONE ETC. IT IS WRONG TO USE THESE  PRECIOUS OR SEMI PRECIOUS NAMES TO DESCRIBE ANYTHING BUT A REAL,  GEMSTONE.YOU MAY NOT REFER TO A LAB CREATED as SEMI PRECIOUS OR PRECIOUS GEM.

IT IS WRONG TO USE THE NAME SEMI-PRECIOUS OR PRECIOUS ,OR BIRTHSTONE AND GEMSTONE ,TO REFER TO ANYTHING THAT IS SYNTHETICALLY PRODUCED IN A LAB .UNLESS SUCH A WORD IS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDED WITH EQUAL CLARITY THAT IT IS NOT A NATURAL STONE.  THE STONE MUST POSSESS THE SAME OPTICAL,PHYSICAL , AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AS A NATURAL STONE. THE PERSON MUST CLARIFY THAT THE STONE IS IMITATION OR SIMULATED, THAT IT IS NOT A NATURAL GEM .

          DIAMONDS

A Diamond IS A NATURAL MINERAL OF PURE CARBON THAT HAS CRYSTALLIZED .IT MUST BE SYMMETRICAL AND HAVE 17 POLISHED FACETS.INDUSTRIAL GRADE DIAMONDS ARE NOT OF JEWELRY QUALITY.

               GOLD

GOLD ( or any abbreviation ,or quality mark)implying gold content to describe jewelry means a alloy of gold of not less than 10 karat fineness of all metal.

 It is wrong to misrepresent gold or gold alloy ,karat fineness ,thickness weight or the way gold is plated ,covered ,or how the coating was applied.

 it must state plated or coated.

Gold plate or any abbrev. to describe jewelry  must contain a surface plating of gold alloy applied with a mechanical process thick enough and well covered to give durability and must clearly state correct karatage,GOLD PLATE, GOLD FILLED,ROLLED GOLD PLATE GOLD OVERLAY( OR ANY ABBREV. ) MEANS A THIN LAYER OF GOLD OVERLAY . A  MINIMUM of 1/20 th of the weight of the item metal in its entire form , the terms gold overlay and or rolled gold plate may be used when the karat fineness designation is immediately preceded by a fraction  that clearly states the disclosure of the portion of the plating weight of the metal in its entire form.

          ELECTROPLATE

Electroplate means it is electroplated with gold or gold alloy  and electroplating is of such karate,thickness,and coverage to allow for good durability.has to be marked as G.E.P ,AH!!!! when it only meets the minimum fineness . The marking or description may be GOLD FLASHED OR GOLD WASHED.

 KARAT GOLD -HOLLOW CENTER, OR KARAT GOLD TUBING should not be marked as solid.

                         SILVER

SILVER, SOLID SILVER,STERLING SILVER ,STERLING OR ABBREV.sterling must be 900/1000th"s PURE SILVER. Silver plated items should not be stamped ,branded ,engraved,or imprinted with the word sterling or the word coin either alone or in conjunction with other words or marks.
