Watch out for fake coins from China !!!!

There are many Chinese cast copies of silver dollar-sized coins being sold on ebay. I got fished in by buying a lot containing  US dollars and Trade dollars, GB crowns, Phillipines, Germany, Haiti, Mexico, South Africa and Spanish 8 reales. They are listed as silver but are made mostly of lead. Easiest way to tell is by the poor job done on the edge reeding. Most have high-grade detail but lack any luster - they are uniformly gray, not shiny or toned like real coins. I got one that was supposed to be from Great Britain that had Queen Elizabeth II -1953 to date- that was dated 1877, not 1977. Another had one side from Germany and the other Mexico.

)UPDATE) -There are also a number of other Canadian fakes (and probably other countries) showing up on ebay. High grade Victorian 10 and 25 cent coins have been listed, as well as a 1921 five cents in a counterfeit ICCS holder !!

The sellers ship by a courrier company at very high prices which makes it hard or impossible to return for a full refund.

Also beware of cast iron banks, tin and cast iron toys, ancient pottery, glassware such as Gallé, which I have seen offered by a seller in the USA.
