Hello Everyone:
This is a repost to a guide I had up here on ebay previously to this one,
the original one was removed due to a dishonest seller from Canada complaining to ebay,
I was ripped off by this seller, and I was being "HONEST" about the situation,
the guide was pulled because it violated a few rules on Ebay, let's just say the seller has an online store in Canada and they use a font on their letters similar to the rock band AC/DC'S letters, and they have shack in their name.
There is a problem with a lot of guitars being sold on ebay, and the problem is the authenticity of the item,
This is due to a lot of forgeriesand copies coming out of China,
the sad part is the fact a lot of people are getting ripped off, and some of the sellers who are selling these fakes know what they are selling, but there is some honest sellers who don't have a clue as to what they are selling, they believe their distributors they are selling legit guitars.
which brings up the subject on Dillion Guitars,
there is a lot of fake Dillion Guitars popping up on ebay, the majority of them are coming from sellers in Canada,
because of this, Dillion is not honoring any warranties on any products not sold in the USA,
now there is a lot of legit sellers in Canada selling Dillion Guitars, but the fakes are easy to spot,
the majority of the fakes are close copies of Gibson designs such as the Les Paul, the SG, the flying V, Les Paul Jr, and the Firebird to name a few,
Go to Dillion Guitars website and you will see all of the guitars currently being offered by Dillion,
the other way to spot the fakes is by looking at the back of the headstock, if there is no Crafted in Korea or Serial Number get more information about it and contact Dillion Guitars, Dillion will let you know if the guitar is the real deal or not,
Dillion told me about the Fake piece of crap I had, they told me what I had was a fake, it was a "Chambered" Les Paul, hint the keyword "Chambered",
Dillion does not sell "Chambered" Les Pauls in the USA,
The guitar looked good on the outside, but on the inside where it was chambered, it was horrible,
the whole inside of the body was hollow except for a few small spots near the edges, and a spot near the bridge, sort of like a poorly done Les Paul Supreme,
I am not kidding about any of this, I found out all of this when I went to change the electronics in the guitar,
then when I went to sell it on ebay so I can get some of my money back, I had a lot of people complaining about the authenticity of the item, including Dillion Guitars,
I mentioned in the auction where it came from, and the fact I even questioned it's authenticity was even mentioned,
the guitar finally sold, I took a loss but I got most of my money back on that turd,
but enough of all that,
Newer Dillion Guitars have the following on the back of the neck of the guitar,
" HAND CRAFTED FOR DILLION U.S.A."
Dillion guitars knows of the fakes, that is why they are going to such measures,
Dillion Guitars are made in Korea, some in China,
a few of them have popped up on ebay with made in China stickers on the back of the guitar,
but most of all here is the things to look for,
if the back of the headstock is blank with no stickers or decals of a serial number or made in Korea or China, look at the body of the guitar if the design is not exactly like the ones being shown on the Dillion Guitars site, Contact Dillion,
there is a lot of Dillions that do not have markings on the back of the neck, this is due to the company in Korea not properly clearcoating the stamp or the decal, polishing the guitar usually takes it right off, some of the ealier models used a sticker,
The Les Paul Models usually have a pointed cutaway, or the cutaway is not dead on to a Gibson, if it is dead on and there is no markings on the back of the neck, it is more than likely a fake, Contact Dillion to make sure, although this does not always apply to the early models,
also look at the shape of the headstock, if it is a new guitar and it does not resemble the shape of a current Dillion headstock, it is more than likely a fake, once again contact Dillion, once again early models were slightly different.
now I am not saying all of the sellers from Canada are dishonest, and I am not stating all of the Dillions from Canada are fakes, but I am mentioning all of this information as a guideline to help prevent someone from getting ripped off,
The seller who sold me the fake has a website in Canada and they are a ebay seller, but due to ebay's rules I cannot mention their name or their id, but using the above information should help in the purchase in a genuine Dillion,
See from my understanding, there is two Dillion lines, the one that is sold in the USA and one that is strictly sold in Canada,
the bad part about all of this, if you buy one from Canada, you will have to ship it the the Canadian affiliate of Dillion for repairs, the USA based Dillion company won't accept them,
I was told this by the Dillion factory in the USA,
So this would effect the purchase of a new one if a warranty issue arises.
Now this is not a flame fest on Canada people, I have done a lot of business with Canadian guitar stores and out of all the deals I have done with them, I only got burned once, and for 20 years of doing business with Canadian sellers, that's not bad.
this article is only written as a guideline and to aid in the purchase of a Dillion,
