The original idea for these dog boots was over 10 years ago for my own greyhounds. They were multipurpose bred and competitive in both showing and on the lurecoursing field. It was imperative that the dogs stay in top condition for competition on the field and in the show ring and that meant alot of daily exercise off lead. Being from an extremely cold Canadian climate where the temperate often dips 30 degrees below freezing often for weeks on end it was impossible to keep my dogs in condition or even take them for brief walks because the greyhound simply cannot tolerate extreme frigid temperatures due to their low body fat ratio and sparse coats. Greyhounds also have thin skin that tends to tear and bleed around the feet and ankles when walking or running on encrusted or hard snow surfaces.
I, probably like yourself tried the short size boots that fasten at the ankles however they are just not designed for dogs with long, slim legs. Ankle boots won't stay on those skinny legs and feet just walking the dog down the street let alone running through deep snow! To try and keep ankle boots on my hounds while running offlead they had to be fastened so tight they literally rubbed the hair off the ankles and then cut through the thin, delicate skin and dew claws which caused raw skin, open sores and bleeding from the friction.
Thus was born HOUNDWEAR GREYHOUND BLIZZARD DOG BOOTS. They "stay put" even with rigorous off lead exercise in deep snow and were designed especially for the active sighthound to "lock-on" the legs securely above the large joints where there is very little friction, and delicately at the thin skinned ankle area forming a cuff for the foot. This means no more worries about looking for lost boots in deep snow and raw, bleeding legs! Each boot is seamlessly lined so it's soft and warm inside with NO hard seams anywhere that would rub against those delicate legs or feet. The boots are tall and also help protect the lower legs from hard snow and debris.
Now I have older greyhounds, one of which has problems with dislocated toes and SLO " Symmetrical Lupoid Oncodystophy". Her feet must be bandaged for walks and Blizzard Boots have allowed her to go for more pain free walks without me having to worry that the bandages will get wet, dirty or fall off while she runs to her hearts content.
Dog nails affected with SLO pictured below. **Note the hollow and broken/cracked nailbed shells with the quick's exposed. Aside from the pain most dogs experience with this autoimmune disease protecting the nailbeds from debris collection (that could lead to infection) and trauma during excercise is imperative to protect the dogs feet.
HoundWear Blizzard Dog Boots can also be of Therapeutical benefit for dogs with other Medical conditions:
Arthritis, corns, plantar warts, bandaged or wrapped feet due to to dislocated toes or toe injuries, hounds that drag there feet or nails when walking due to partial paralysis, deformaties or ligament injuries by protecting the foot.
My design of these boots were a godsend that helped my hounds keep in top shape even in the coldest weather in addition to protecting their feet from chemicals and salt on our streets.
These boots also fit other breeds with slim legs ie: doberman, boxer, whippet, saluki, vizsla, lurcher.

BLIZZARD BOOT MEASUREMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Greyhound/ Boxer/Doberman Sole Sizing
There is a simple way to measure your dogs sole size. Start by getting a peice of paper, a pen and a ruler.
Lay the paper on a flat, solid surface. Place a front paw on the paper with the dog bearing full weight on the foot. Draw a line at the back of the paw right behind the footpad then draw another line right in front of the toenails. Measure between these two lines and you will have the sole measurement.
**If you are unsure if the dogs nails are too long. Dog nails should not touch the floor when the dog is standing on a solid surface to be the proper length. Excessively long nails can lead to injury and foot pain and should be trimmed or filed appropriately.
Height Sizing
For Height, with a straight ruler measure from the floor to top of the joint on both the front and back legs and you will have the height measurement. Ensure the back leg is at a 90 degree, straight angle to the floor to obtain the correct height. (see photo above)
GREYHOUND Size Medium / Fits Most (90% of greyhounds fall in the Medium range)
Front: Maximum 3.5" or smaller paw - 6" or less to top of large joint
Back: Maximum 3.5" or smaller paw - 8" or less to top of large joint
