Measurements are FAR from Standardized

I have learned over the years with my own many, many dresses, in particular, that the measurements seem to have no connection, whatsoever, to the size on the tag. I wear nothing but dresses and my body hasn't changed much over the years, yet I have, in my closet, X-Small dresses, Smalls, Mediums, and even a few Larges - all that fit me! Measurements are FAR from standardized - not just from designer to designer, but from dress to dress - so I get frustrated when sellers a) give only the Bust and Length measurements, b) don't give any measurements at all or c) simply include a size chart from the designer's website. Stating just the size is NOT helpful - we're not cut from cookie-cutters - we're all built differently! As a potential buyer, I really resent having to ask repeatedly for the measurements. Don't make buyers do the work of asking you for information ... PROVIDE IT!

The More Information the Better

So, when buying OR selling, please keep in mind that measurements can be VASTLY different from dress to dress. The more information you can provide up-front, the better the chance that a potential buyer will actually make the purchase. After all, how many people would lay down between $15 and $200 for an item they have no idea will even fit? The market for women's clothing is large and competition to buy and sell - especially designer labels - can be fierce. You can gain the upper hand by providing all the information necessary to pique a buyer's interest and give them the incentive to 'Place a Bid' or 'Buy it Now!' The measurements important to include - for dresses in particular - are:

    • BUST
    • WAIST
    • HIPS
    • LENGTH
    • and when appropriate, SLEEVE LENGTH.

Multiple Photos are Appreciated

Remember, too, that multiple photographs are appreciated. Dresses often include a lot of detail, so showcase that detail with close-up photos. Include the front and back of the dress plus close-up shots of the bodice, skirt, etc. And please, where necessary, ROTATE your photos before uploading them to your listing so viewers don't have to turn themselves into knots to see them!

These are just a few tips from a buyer's perspective to keep in mind when writing your listings. I hope you've found this helpful. If you have, please vote!

Cheers!
