KitchenAid & Whirlpool Warranty SCAM

I bought the KitchenAid Washer Model # KAWS700LQ0 on Sept 16, 2003.

At the time I bought it, it was there best warranty washer and cost me about $800.

The washer breaks down August 7th, 2007. I call there warranty / service department. I wait on hold for over 1 hour. They tell me it will take over 15 Days before there service man will be out to my house.

Since it has been over two years the service is not free but the Gearcase, Motor, Center Post assembly bearings, Outer Tub and Basket are under warranty for the parts only and that’s a $77 charge for the first 15 minutes, $50 every other 15 minutes. Also that I can not have anyone else look at the machine otherwise I will void the warranty.

A regular service man in the yellow pages would be here the next day and only charges $33 for the first 1/2 hour etc.

Is this nuts? I will never buy a KitchenAid or Whirlpool again.

I take the unit apart and it ends up the Gear Case assembly / Neutral Assembly is broken which is under warranty but I will fix it my self costing me $13.97 and saving me quite a few hundred dollars for the overcharge of the Kitchen Aid service man.

So when buying an appliance only look at the full warranty where the parts & labor are covered. In this case two years. All the rest of the warranty is garbage because of the charge for the labor you can buy a new machine. Just make sure its not the same piece of crap.
