A recumbent bike differs somewhat from an upright bike. It places the rider against a backrest with legs out front. The nice thing here is that most people find this position much more comfortable. Recumbent bikes can have as many as 16 levels of resistance and a dozen workout programs built in. There is something therefore for everyone. And when you consider it the relatively inexpensive cost of a recumbent bike, often less than $500, this piece of home exercise equipment is a terrific investment.

Now, the better quality recumbent bikes often have, in addition to the features mentioned before, as many as 16 different positions that you can adjust the seat horizontally to. This on top of how easy it is to step through and position yourself on the bike. Needless to say, this is a godsend for older exercisers. Anything that makes a workout easier will be met with great enthusiasm by that segment of the population.

There you have it, a real basic primer on recumbent bikes and why they have grown in popularity over the years. We can all remember that trusty old upright bike in the basement, but we live in a time when there are so many better options. A recumbent is one of the very best.
