Here is my Trick.
When the time come to draw the line on the Hub Cap trim, I had some hard time to figure out how I am going to do it in an inexpensive manner.
So I thaught about something neat.
One day, I went into the attic and found an old disc player, you know theses antique player that use to spin theses PVC records to 16,33,78....
So, I centered with great precision my hub cap moulding and gear my disc player to the lowest speed.
It was too fast still.
So I did install a bigger pulley on the Main Shaft and use a smaller pulley on the motor and used a rubber band as a strap to turn the turning table.
I personally use CAMEL HAIR BRUSH, but you can use what ever you feel comfortable with as a mean of applying the fine line.
You can even use AIR BRUSH GUN , it does a great job specially when you use the TURBO TYPE.
When I did first tried it, I did test and practice on other piece of metal.
I did practice my line and hand motion , I learned how deep I should dip my brush into the paint so she wont drip on the Hub Cap Center Piece.
I learned that the main thing is that I sould not try to paint all at once in adding too much paint on my camel hair.
Better repeating than correcting.
So practice is essential to the perfection.
Anyhow, once I did master the speed of my Record Table Speed, Mastering also the amount of Paint unto my Brush, Holding firmly but with agility the tip of the Brush, learning also the angle of the Brush against the moving metal ; I was able to make a perfect double line with perfect width all around.
I notice that my turning table should be set at 10 R.P.M. for best result that will not stress me out when I am going to make contact with the Brush against the Moving Center piece.
So, remember.....
-
Control the RPM of the Table...
-
Center Perfectly the Metal Hub Cap...
-
Practice on an other piece of metal....
-
Do not load too much your Brush with Paint...
-
Better come back with more paint than trying to remove the excess.....
-
Finally PRACTICE,PRACTICE and PRACTICE before attempring on the real piece.
A small word of encouragement:
Once you will do it a few times, you are going to discovered that it is a lot more easier than you taught.
You'll See.
May Jesus Christ Bless you in your PROJECT.
IN HIS SERVICE,
ROBERT GIASSON.
