How shipping works for Canada:
Under the free trade agreement of the USA, MEXICO, CANADA, in 1989, there are no custom and duties fees applicable anymore. The extra money that you need to pay are the federal and provincial taxes (PST-GST) that applies to your province, plus a handling fee.
This is the part i dont like:
Under the law there is a tax exemption for any items that is purchase with a value under $60 or if it is a "gift".
example 1: you buy for $100...exemption of $60....taxable value of $40......GST-PST and $5 handling for USPS-Canada Post.....will collect around $10 at the door.
example2 : you buy for $100...no exemption.........taxable value of $100.....GST-PST and $40 handling.....DHL-FEDEX-UPS.....will collect around $55 or more at the door.
DHL, UPS, FEDEX(which is a contractor fedex trading networks) will ignore the above and will tell you their rates are cheaper but the hidden handling fees of around $40 on all items no matter what plus the taxes cost ,will eventually make your transaction very unpleasant and costly. There has been many complaints and reports about those carriers that dont tell about those charges.
The quoted price is for the USA portion of the delivery and your in for a big surprise when the man show you the "money collect amount".
This is my personnal experience having used many carriers naming only a fiew...i would suggest making a call to them (independant carriers), before bidding to get the "total price at the door" before bidding". It can only make your transaction more pleasant and without any bad surprises..
