If you got a Sony Ericsson phone with a contract recently, you may have found that you can't use your own MP3 files as ringtones. This is not a problem with the phone, it's just that the network operator has blocked the use of unprotected ringtones, forcing you to download ringtones from their website.
To get around this, and use any ringtone, download a program called Sony Ericsson DRM Packager. It is an official SE utility, although it is not available for download in the public area of the website. You can find a copy on Google easily enough. The program will add DRM features to your ringtone, allowing it to be used by your phone.
