Enter into a Larger, More Defined Vision

Medium format?  Too Expensive? Hard to learn?  Not at all...My first jump into Medium Format ( MF ) was with a gifted " Ventura Billy " circa 1940 made by Agfa...105mm f/6.3 lens, top shutter speed = 1/200...Tack Sharp 6 x 9 cm images...especially when I got really crazy and used Pan F ( ISO 50 ) film or Kodachrome 64.

The Yashica MAT124G was my first 21/4inch ( 6 x 6cm ) camera.  A Twin Lens Reflex...you view thru the top lens & expose via the lower lens.  This lower lens has the shutter & arpeture controls on it.

Shutter speeds 1 sec to 1/500..f/3.5 - f/ 32 in a 4 element Tessar type lens. I should point out here, that it is a " Leaf Shutter " which is Silent.  Flash sync X at All Speeds!   No interchangable lenses!  But, accessory lenses for wide angle, telephoto & close-up are available ( used ).  Haven't used the wide or tele attachments, therefore cannot comment on results.  The close-up lenses I own & use; quality of results is excellent.

This camera has proven itself worthy in all manner of weather, in temps from -30F to + 30F.  Worked as my primary back-up to my ELM Blad first, then my RB67ProS, M645 and now my C330ProsS Kit.  It has always delivered constant, clear images approx 3.3x larger than 35mm ( neg size ).  The Yashica MAT124G is very light weight and easy to hand hold at most shutter speeds.  It does take some time to get used to a Waist Level finder with the image reversed from left to right...but the image is almost exactly the size of your negative! 2 1/4 inch sq. ( 6 x 6 cm )  The grid lines on the focussing screen make it easy to aline verticals & horizontals.

Exposure is a breeze...just use the built-in CDS meter.  I've checked mine against my Gossen Lunasix many times and it has always been dead on!  Open the hood for the waist level finder and the meter is on.  Load either 120 or 220 film ( change inside pressure plate ), set ISO to right of meter, f/stop & shutter speed on your lens,  focus & capture tack sharp memories!

My Yashica MAT 124G was in use at least every second to third day for the full 17 years of my semi-pro career.  I even have used it in my darkroom to produce quality copy negs!  Purchased from the Cdn. distributor in 1981 for $95.00CAD....it has not required tech service yet!

These fantastic cameras are available used, try to get the Leather case, ask vendor questions, heck...e-mail me if you wish.  I will try to assist.  Low cost, light weight, excellent optics, 3.3x neg size  vs 35mm...what more could U want?

Cheers!

Richard
