Hello buyers, you powerful people. I say that because literally with the advent of the DSR system on Ebay YOU decide who continues to sell on Ebay and who can't !!

While many of you may not realize it, the effects of the star ratings you leave are huge for Ebay's experienced sellers. The un-informed usage of this ratings system, may lead to some sellers ceasing to offer your favourite items on Ebay.

Therefore I decided to publish a much needed guide on how to properly use those 5 little stars. Before I do that I want you to know some of the things these little stars do!

- DSR's decide how our listings show up in Best Match, or if they show up at all. Poor DSR's reduce the price we get for our merchandise, increasing the chance we won't offer a similiar item again.

- DSR's decide whether Ebay rewards or suspends us from the site or not. Any DSR average below 4.1 can be the end for the seller's career on Ebay.

- DSR's decide how much we pay to list on Ebay. If you increase your seller's costs, by lowering their ratings, they may have to stop listing items you are interested in, in the future.

So you can see, while being quite particular and leaving a 1 or a 2 for someone is great fun, especially since you think it's anonymous(it isn't, We can figure out who left what) it only ends up limiting YOUR selection in the future.

The plain fact is that ANY time you leave less than 5 stars for any category, it's possible, that Ebay may, as a result, take unilateral punitive action against that seller's account. It's definitely not just a fun little game, it's our livelihoods.

HOW TO USE THE DSR SYSTEM

1.Rating Item Description

Did you get what the picture of the item was in the listing? Was it the right colour, size etc. If you got what you paid for LEAVE 5 STARS That's it, if you got it, and it's the right item, in the right condition, leave 5 stars. SIMPLE !!

2.Communication.

Did you ask a question or questions and they were answered? If yes, then LEAVE 5 STARS. If you did not get an answer quickly, remember people who list on Ebay have lives too, we can't sit at the computer 24 hours a day seven days a week waiting for questions. We have to go out and find stuff to sell too. Be reasonable. Most of us check our email a few times a day, but stuff happens.

3. Shipping Time.

Ask your seller when they mailed your parcel. If it was within 72 hours of purchase LEAVE 5 STARS. Notice I say mailed, not received. You are rating the amount of time it took the seller to wrap and drop off the item at the post office, Not the Post Office's performance. NOT how long the Post office took. It is grossly unfair to punish a seller for what the Post Office does. This shipping DSR is for the time it took the Seller to MAIL the parcel.

4. Shipping Cost.

Were you charged for shipping what the listing said you would be? If yes LEAVE 5 STARS. That's it. Sellers DO NOT SET POSTAL RATES!! You knew the cost when bidding, and if that is what you were charged it's a 5!! If shipping was free, then only a very unkind person would leave less than a 5!! Right?? How could FREE rate anything less than 5??

Remember this fact: The fewer stars you leave, the fewer sellers there will be, the fewer items to choose from you will have next time. No sellers=no Ebay. Be kind to the site you love to shop on !! And be good to yourself !!

I hope any buyers who read this guide will find it helpful.
