Acacia Concinna is a small shrub-like tree that grows in India. It's pod-like fruit is collected, dried and then ground into a fine powder. It is used to cleanse hair, and is known to promote hair growth and get rid of dandruff. Due to these benefits, this powder was named shikakai which means :fruit for the hair".

It helps in stregthening the hair from it's roots. Typically, shikakai is mixed with water to make a paste which is worked through the hair. It lathers moderately and cleanses hair beautifully. It has a naturally low pH, is extremely mild, and doesn't strip the hair of it's natural oils.

Traditionally, no conditioner is used as shikakai also acts as a detangler. This product is one of the world's original pH balanced shampoo.

To mix this powder for use on hair just add warm water to your powder and mix well. Make this paste into the consistency of thick yoghurt. You can then apply this paste onto your hair as you would shampoo and rub it well into the scalp to promote blood circulation. Then wash out.

You may also add 2 tbsp of shikakai to your henna or cassia obovata powders (2 tbsp per 100 grams), and then continue to make your henna or cassia obovata paste as you normally would.
